2. Day 31: A Cabin At The Lake

This month of extending love to depression has been somehow like coming home.  Coming home to a house you visited when you were very young but had not been to in many years.  Everything looks smaller, less daunting, possibly shabbier even while exuding the feeling  of the comfort and safety of home.  Allowing myself the gift of spending time with the thought-cluster of depression has been like coming upon a favored cabin at Donner Lake that has been shut up for years.  It’s dusty and stale and all the outdoor furniture is stacked in the living room.  The water has been turned off and the cupboards are bare.

This month I have spent cleaning out the cabin; throwing open the windows, scrubbing the floors

A holy perspective.

A holy perspective.

and vacuuming every inch of the place.  The fireplace is clean and a fresh stack of firewood awaits the chill of evening.  The porch swing and fire pit are set up and the canoe is down by the water, ready for a morning paddle.  The water is turned on and the fridge is stocked with champagne, summer strawberries and a wedge of brie.  The sun is coming up.

Depression is a cabin at the lake, sometimes you stay a couple of days, some times a season.  I have learned to accept the gifts of allowing myself to go to the cabin alone with Holy Spirit.  This has been energizing and heart opening and I don’t think I will ever be afraid to look at depression again as long as I know my Holy Friend is with me.  That is what I really learned, nothing is fearful as long as Holy Spirit is with me.  And Holy Spirit is always with me.  I learned that depression doesn’t tell the truth about me, the Holy Spirit does.

Now we are on a roll Holy Spirit, what shall we look at next?  What would be most helpful?

(Tomorrow we will find out……..)

  1. This makes me want to go to a cabin by the lake for the peace and love talked about here! It also brings to mind this verse – Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Thank you Eva for taking us on this journey with you.

    • The truth is nothing IS fearful with the Holy Spirit of God, all we are doing here, i getting to know, love, cherish and delight in this awareness. Thanks for your comments Deb, I LOVE this verse! xo
